A cabaret at Irvine Golf Club, by well-known local duo “Time of Your Life”, has raised funds that will help further strengthen the growing junior section at the club.

The Cabaret was organised by St Mungo Golf Club which shares the facilities at Irvine Golf Club, thanks to a long-standing relationship of over 100 years, with members from both clubs attending the sell out event.

£500 was raised and this was matched by a contribution from St Mungo, bringing the total to £1,000.

Before the cabaret got under way St Mungo’s Vice-Captain Fraser Pentland presented the cheque to Irvine Golf Club’s Captain Andy Clift and Junior Convenor Kenny Hankinson.

Junior golf is increasingly popular at Irvine Golf Club and every effort is being made to encourage girls and boys to join up.

Irvine Captain Andy Clift said: “Our junior section has gone from strength to strength over the last two years. We have a dedicated junior committee who work tirelessly to provide a safe and friendly environment.

“The club has more than doubled its junior section numbers. They enjoy guaranteed tee times all year, free coaching and additional benefits such as professional clinics – as in a recent visit by Ladies European Tour Player, Laura Murray. They also get entry to junior opens and are looking forward to a visit to this year’s Open Championship.

“This was a great social night for members of the two clubs. Our relationship with St Mungo Golf Club goes back a long way and it’s important that the two clubs recognise that in events such as this.

“And for this money to be raised and donated to our junior golf section will really help to build on the progress we have already made, thanks to many of our senior members’ involvement.”

Alistair Wales, who organised the event for St Mungo, said: “We wanted to do something that would help encourage youngsters to enjoy the game of golf. I’m just thrilled that members turned out in such numbers to support this event.

“As a club for those in the Licensed Trade – we are in fact Glasgow Licensed Trade Golf Club – it’s obviously not practical for us to have a junior section, so we are only too happy to help Irvine’s one.

“And as Andy says it is also good just to get the members of our clubs mixing socially.”
