BOTH swimming pools at Irvine's problem-stricken Portal will be closed for three weeks, the times can now reveal.

KA Leisure bosses today confirmed the swimming pools at the centre will remain closed until June 23.

Despite confirming the closure bosses are still refusing to explain what exactly the problem with the pools is, other than a "technical problem".

Bosses did, however, confirm customers who are part of our swimming lesson programme and as well as our swim only members will receive refunds.

A spokesman for KA Leisure said: “Unfortunately the swimming pools at the Portal are currently unavailable due to technical issues. As customers will know, planned maintenance is scheduled for next week which would result in the temporary closure of the pools.

"As a result however of the current technical issues experienced, the pools will now remain closed to allow for necessary additional works to take place. The rest of the facilities at the Portal remain open as normal with the swimming pools reopening on Saturday 23 June.

"We will also be arranging refunds for customers who are part of our swimming lesson programme and as well as our swim only members.

"We apologise to all pool users for this unexpected closure and any inconvenience caused. “
