THERE’S not long left to enter Irvine’s Race for Life event with the deadline for entries next Monday.

Hundreds of women have already signed up to take part on Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life Wednesday, June 13 at Irvine Beach Park.

Entry closes on Monday, June 11 and organisers are encouraging women committed to the cause to sign up to the 5k and 10k events right now at raceforlife.org.

Money raised will help Cancer Research UK scientists find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease, helping save more lives.

Fiona Murray, Event Manager for Race for Life in Irvine, said: “Every day, around 87 people are diagnosed with cancer in Scotland. Now is the time to commit to Race for Life, join like-minded ladies at the start line and make a real difference in the fight against the disease.

“By taking part and raising money, our participants will play a crucial role in helping to turn discoveries made in the lab into new, better treatments for patients in Irvine and across the UK. That’s why every step, every person and every penny raised counts.

“Our aim is that one day everyone will beat cancer. The more women who Race for Life, the sooner we can help that day come. We are urging women in Irvine to sign up right now and show their support.”

One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives, but the good news is more people are surviving the disease now than ever before. Cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.

Fiona continued: “We’re calling on the women of Irvine to sign up today as their par ticipation and contribution is so important.

“Cancer is a disease that affects us all in some way. By taking part in Race for Life, people can come together to remember loved ones lost to cancer or celebrate the lives of those dear to them who have survived. By raising money, participants can also support Cancer Research UK scientists to make vital strides forward in research, helping more men, women and children survive the disease.”

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy, Half Marathon and Hiking events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer.
