TWO people have been taken to hospital following a crash near the Bailey Bridge this evening.

Two cars, being driven by a learner driver and a new driver collided at the Merryvale Roundabout, next to Tesco Supermarket.

Two people were injured and taken to Crosshouse but while Police Scotland say their injuries are not serious, the Times understands one driver has suffered a broken leg and another person has had to be cut free from the vehicle.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “We were called to a report of a road traffic collision at the Merryvale Roundabout in Irvine at 5.30pm tonight.

“Two people suffered minor injuries and were taken to Crosshouse Hospital as a precautionary measure.”
