CASTLEPARK Primary is in the running to win a fantastic new sustainable outdoor play area – and they need your help.

The Irvine school is currently first place in the leaderboard after votes have flooded in from residents and across North Ayrshire.

If you haven't voted yet, click here to keep Castlepark primary in first place before voting closes on July 24.

The school is one of only five schools in Scotland, and 32 from across the UK, to be in for a chance of winning the playground with is partially made from recycled plastics.

This waste recycling competition is being run by TerraCycle – a Febreze and Fairy partner.

Castlepark Primary’ s eco-committee secured their place in the competition by signing up to become one of TerraCycle’s local collection points for items that are regularly sent to landfill including cleaning spray bottles, food pouches and used pens.

And thanks to the school’s great effort, they now need the support of the local community to help them win the top prize.

Anne Wylie, Eco-School Co-ordinator at Castlepark, said: “Our Eco-Committee, Parent Council and indeed the entire school community has worked really hard to spread the positive message of sustainability and waste reduction in the local area.

“Their efforts have already been recognised, having secured two green eco-flags for the school, demonstrating our commitment to protecting the environment.

“But this competition now gives us a fantastic opportunity for all of our pupils to reap the rewards of recycling by giving us the chance to win a sustainable playground which they can all enjoy.

“As the winner is the school that receives the most votes, we are calling on everyone in North Ayrshire to get behind us.

We are the only school in North Ayrshire to be in the running for the playground, so we hope everyone here can support us by voting for our school.”

The competition focuses on raising awareness of the issue of waste recycling among the youngest in our society.

This project aims to help reduce plastic litter from entering nature’s playground and polluting the planet, instead creating play areas for kids to enjoy a bit of fresh air everywhere.

32 schools around the country are competing to win the sustainable playground that promotes healthy lifestyles for kids and for the planet.

Voting closes on 24 July, with the winner announced thereafter.

The plan is for the playground to be delivered and installed later in winter 2018.

The recycled playground will be built using 900 kg of recycled plastic, mainly with parts made from kerbside recycling waste collected in the UK that includes milk bottles, plastic drink bottles, plastic food trays and containers.
