Irvine police are appealing for information after fireworks were thrown towards a house in the Lawthorn area.

At around 11.15pm on Sunday, July 15 a family were within their address in Irvine's Strathmore Park when they were aware of a number of loud bangs in their garden area. They immediately contacted police who attended.

No one was injured however, the occupants of the house were left shaken as a result.

Inspector Colin Convery said: "Thankfully, the occupants of the house were uninjured however the outcome could have been much worse. We do know that there were rumours circulating in the local area that there was a firearm or shotgun during the incident, however, we can confirm this was not the case.

"This incident has had a significant impact on the family and appears to have been a targeted attack.

"We have been carrying out a number of enquiries in the area and as a result we believe there were at least two people involved and the priority at this time is to identify them.

"I would make a specific appeal to anyone in the area who may have CCTV footage, which may show the actions of the persons responsible, to contact Police Scotland.

"I would appeal for anyone with any information to contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101 quoting reference number 4909 of 15 July 2018.
