Residents have been left disappointed after vandals messed up a planter in Kilwinning’s Main Street last week.

One of the planters was found to have been vandalised on Friday morning with its greenery stewn across the street.

Kilwinning Councillor Donald Reid said: “It’s disappointing after we try and regenerate the town centre, I’m sure police will be looking to get the culprits.

“Thankfully it looks like an isolated incident but we’re disappointed and it’s a setback for the town centre after we’ve been looking to clean it up a bit more.

“It was only the one of them vandalised and it was spread everywhere, but it’s like a teaspoon of blood against a white wall looking like someone’s been murdered, it looked worse than it actually was. But I was phoned first thing just to let me know what happened and that it was being dealt with.

“I had the planters moved back into the Main Street three years ago as we just wanted it to be a bit greener with a bit more colour in it, but there we are.”

A North Ayrshire Council spokesman said: “Our grounds maintenance teams do their utmost to ensure North Ayrshire looks its best so this thoughtless act of vandalism is very disappointing.

“After being alerted to the incident the team has already been out to clean up and restore the display. We would ask members of the public to report any instances of vandalism to the police.”
