AN IRVINE fitness instructor has completed a gruelling charity challenge climbing 24 Munros in just over 24 hours.

Scott Brown completed the infamous Ramsay’s Round at the weekend, climbing more than 28,300ft and covering more than 62miles in 27 hours.

Scott, 35, started at 8am on Friday morning and finished up early afternoon on Saturday after climbing all 24 munroes without stopping.

The former soldier completed the challenge to raise money for research in to Von Hipple disease.

Only 130 people have ever completed Ramsay’s Round in 24 hours, and despite just falling short of target, Scott says he is proud of what he achieved.

He said: “I didn’t get my sub 24 but boy, did I experience it all and I am feeling proud of what I got done. I started well completing 10 munroes in in nine hours through the daytime and I felt strong. Then came the middle section where I was joined by my mate Barry Grove.

"This section was a slog and the only section I hadn’t recced beforehand and that came back to haunt me whenthe darkness crept in and the wind picked up. I found myself in more water than I planned and had to do more swimming than I have in the last two years which wasn’t good.

“The third section I had recced the other week during the day and felt great on. But through the night was to be different. I knew the weather was to be wild and it didn’t disappoint. No visibility, rain and gale force winds on the hills and ridges tested us and sometimes had us struggling to walk at any pace or find tracks, never mind run.”

Despite the challenges Scott says his support on the ground was incredible and he has vowed to try again next year. He said: “Thanks to all my suppor ters and biggest thanks to Chris Saunderson for his ground support as always.

“We did our best in the weather given. But I’ll retake this challenge in June in good weather this time and choose my weekend when it doesn’t get dark, then I’ll get a better outcome. “I like putting my body through hell and this was no exception.

“Thanks to all that sponsored me too.”

Scott has raised £865 of his £1,000 target.
