KILWINNING Cemetery could be set for an £180,000 makeover if new refurbishment plans get the green light.
North Ayrshire Council’s Streetscene and Roads Team has submitted plans to refurbish the cemetery and improve the pathways and roads.
Under the plans the cemetery would get improvements to the general infrastructure. The carriageway at the entrance would also be resurfaced and older paths which are less used would be turfed over to “improve aesthetics”.
All broken gullies and drains would be replaced and the pathway at the centre of the cemetery would also be resurfaced.
Crucially, the plans include new kerbing to be installed at strategic points in a bid to prevent vehicles cutting corners over graves.
Kilwinning councillor Scott Davidson said: “I’m sure we’ll all be glad to see NAC Streetscene and Road make good progress once work is underway.”
Fellow councillor Donald Reid added: “The cemetery is a place of remembrance and it’s condition is of utmost importance to the community.”
