ORGANISERS from the car cruise event in Irvine have apologised after a "huge mess" was left by those in attendance.

Their apology came after the Irvine Clean Up Crew, a volunteer group which aims to keep Irvine beach park and the whole town litter free, blasted the plethora of rubbish left behind at the beach park and surrounding car parks following the event on Sunday, May 28.

The litter was cleaned up by the volunteer group in the morning following the event.

However, the event organiser's attempts to make amends was not met with the full ethusiasm they were expecting.

In response to the Facebook live, an organiser said: " I’m so sorry about this, this is nothing we stand by.

"We do tell everyone to clean up after themselves but we have no control over others, we are a club who does these events and whatever money we raise goes straight to local charities.

"Since you are not a charity, can we offer to help buy some equipment that will help yous with doing your bit for the community and would like to invite your group to the next event.

"We really do apologise and will continue to spread the message about people leaving litter is not tolerated."

A member of the Clean Up Crew later replied to the comment, asking that discussions be continued privately, even inviting the organsiers along to their next committee meeting for a "friendly dicussion".

They added: "We haven't got any equipment needs at the minute.

"We had wanted to discuss it privately if you had wanted to support us. We have some ideas, but don't want to post them publicly currently.

"I've tried to suggest talking offline, but totally understand if you don't want to. Please continue supporting your local charities."

However, the car cruise organisers were left frustrated by this response and offer to discuss matters privately.

They replied: "I just feel my comment has been totally discarded which makes myself and my team slightly saddened as we have offered yourselves vital equipment for litter picking.

"As a group we pride our self in helping the local charities, communities and families over the years. And plan to keep helping in the future

"We would love to attend the meeting but we all work full time jobs.

"This is a public online video you have shared, so please feel free to share any ideas online so our vast online community can see as we are a open group to everyone."

The Clean Up Crew then made one final offer to the organisers.

They said: "Since it was mostly kids that helped us with our part of the clean up, how about you help us replenish our supply of small prizes for when we run group events aimed at families?

"I had wanted to ask about something else in the pipeline, but I can't post about it publicly right now.

"We can also give you access to our caddy. It contains plenty of litter picking equipment so you can organise to have the litter cleaned up yourselves after any future cruise event."

No public communications have been made since this statement.
