SNP candidate backs internet bid

SCOTS should have their own internet domain according to Irvine's SNP Westminster hopeful John Mullen.

Scotnom Ltd are ready to submit an application to ICAN (the company that controls domain name space) later this year, and Mr Mullen has called for local support for the bid.

He told the Times: "This campaign is a fantastic example of how we can all promote Scotland throughout the world".

"A 'dotScot' domain would not only be a welcome boost to our tourist industry, but would also increase awareness of Scottish culture and give us better international recognition.

"The campaign represents the entire Scottish community, at home and abroad, and includes individuals, groups, businesses and charities.

"It will aid business through improved search engine results as they are likely to return a dotSCOT domain before other similar domains for searches, as they will be deemed more relevant.

"Anyone wishing to know more about the campaign or who would like to register their support can do so at www.dotscot.com ."
