MIKEY VOWS TO MAKE IT TO WESTMINSTER
KILWINNING TV star Mikey Hughes has vowed to make it Westminster within the next five years - despite the result in last week's Glasgow North East by-election.
And after having a chat with Solidarity leader - and fellow Big Brother housemate - Tommy Sheridan, Mikey could now be looking at giving up his independence and jumping in with a political party as he looks to make the step up onto the political ladder in the next five years.
Mikey, making his first bid to be an MP, told the Times he was pleased by his efforts, as he came in 10th out of 13 candidates with 54 votes.
"John Smeaton was getting bankrolled by the Jury Team as well as getting lots of media coverage and he only got 258 votes.
"And the Labour party would have put in thousands so I am pleased with the reaction I got and the fact I didn't come last. I spent £1500 out of my own pocket, so it works out at around £30 a vote."
The reaction of the people of Springburn has given the former St. Michael's Academy pupil the will to go on and fight another day.
"They were great and I don't think the likes of the Conservative candidate would have got as good a reaction, even if she got more votes."
The BB runner-up is now looking to the long term - be it as a councillor, MSP or MP.
"The aim at the very least is to be at Westminster in five years. I spoke to Tommy and he is a good guy and I could be looking to join a party.
"I will be giving up the feather dusters and pledge as I don't want to go down the Screaming Lord Sutch route.
"I'm not worried as Margaret Thatcher lost her first election."
