'WILD' DRIVER LIED TO POLICE
AN IRVINE man caused chaos by driving his car wildly and smashing into another car - then later tried to tell police officers his car had been stolen.
Roger Seymour, of Rosebank Gardens, had maintained a plea of not guilty to a series of charges, but was found guilty off all five at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.
On April 11 Seymour had been spotted driving dangerously along Littlestan Road, Cairnmount Road and Dalmore Road, racing above the speed limit an mounting a grass verge before losing control of his vehicle.
Other cars on the road were then forced to take evasive action to avoid a crash but Seymour's vehicle did collide with one car.
During the incident the 48-year-old also failed to stop for police when they attempted to pull him over.
And he once again failed to stop for PCs John Black and Alan Miller when they tried to flag him down on Littlestane Road.
The following day PCs Black and Miller went to Seymour's home in Rosebank Gardens where they were told that his Vauxhall had been stolen.
At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court Seymour's denial that he had been well aware that he was driving the car was waved away and he was found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
In all he was found guilty of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, failing to stop and provide details following an accident, failing to report an accident to police within 24 hours and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Sentence was deferred until later in the month for background reports. Seymour was banned from the roads in the interim.
