Future plans may indicate areas for primary school closures
FUTURE plans for a new school in Broomlands and Bourtreehill could indicate where council bosses are looking for school closures.
Projects mooted for 2011-2013 would see a new school in the area and an extension to Castlepark Primary.
There are four schools in the Broomlands and Bourtreehill area - Towerlands, Fencedyke, Broomlands and St. John Ogilvie.
Towerlands Primary was one of three earmarked for closure in the past, while there are proposals for three schools to be closed in relation to the new build.
And another school which was set for closure two years ago - John Galt Primary - would have then seen pupils go to Castlepark. With that school touted for an extension it will reignite the view that the school will once again face the threat of closure.
Council Leader David O'Neill told us that the process would not be the same as last time and that a new report would go before the council in the future.
A decision on the future of the schools will NOT be taken this week, but the budget report indicates that the matter will be looked at in the very near future.
