AN IRVINE teenager jumped up and down on another boy's head during a vicious attack that was lucky not to leave his victim with serious injuries, a court has heard.
Jordan Murphy, 17, admitted launching the assault on Michael Black during a confrontation between the two last summer.
Both Michael Black and a friend were walking in Glencairn Street, Stevenston at around 1.15pm July 9 last year when they came across Murphy and another boy on bikes.
Murphy crossed the road towards Mr Black - Kilmarnock Sheriff Court being told that the pair of them "didn't get on".
Procurator Fiscal Laura Archbold said: "The accused approached and got off his bike and said to him 'let's f****** do it then'.
"Mr Black took a step away but the accused lunged and attempted to punch him on the face."
Michael Black then managed to grab his attacker in a headlock and both fell to the ground.
However, Murphy managed to get to his feet first and took the chance to attack by kicking Mr Black on the head.
"He then began to jump into the air and landed on his head with both feet," added the fiscal.
The prostrate boy's friend then grabbed Murphy to make him stop at which point he made off on his bike.
Mr Black returned to his home, but later on was taken to hospital and kept in for eight hours for observation.
However, he only suffered swelling to his temple and bruising to a shoulder.
Murphy's lawyer Douglas Wright explained: "There is a history between them. It was a potentially very serious matter, but at the end of the day no major injuries were suffered."
Sheriff Elizabeth McFarlane deferred sentence for the production of background reports.
