The McAtee family.

A YOUNG Irvine schoolboy who spent a week in hospital after being diagnosed with diabetes has persuaded his whole family to head off on a sponsored cycle to help raise funds for charity.

Seven-year-old Jamie McAtee was diagnosed with the condition last September after his mum Amanda noticed that he had began losing weight.

"We took him to the doctors when he was unwell and they took blood tests," said Amanda.

"He ended up being in hospital for a week."

The Lawthorn Primary pupil is now looking to help others suffering from the condition and has persuaded his entire family to head off on a sponsored cycle for Diabetes UK.
