A PRANKSTER in Kilwinning phoned the fire brigade to say there were a number of gas cookers on fire at Viaduct Bridge.
The false claim meant the town's fire service had to devote valuable time and resources to attend the incident - one of four malicious calls made over the past four months.
However, the number of hoax calls has decreased dramatically over the period.
Station Commander Gibby Lamont said: "The impact of our ongoing involvement with schools and the local community means these kind of calls have dropped a lot recently."
