Two men were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire in Irvine last week.

Fire crews from Dreghorn and Kilwinning responded to reports of a house fire at Dalrymple Place Sheltered Housing complex.

On arrival at the incident, at around 11.19pm on Tuesday, they discovered there had been a small fire in a bedroom within the dwelling which had been extinguished before their arrival.

Station Manager Derek Davidson said “The fire involved clothing which was lying on or near a bed in the bedroom of the house.

“As a result of the incident two adult males suffered from slight smoke inhalation.

“One casualty was given oxygen therapy by firefighters. The other refused treatment from personnel and insisted in waiting for paramedics to arrive.

"Both individuals were assessed by the Scottish Ambulance Service but neither required hospital treatment.”
