Police in Irvine have seized two off-road vehicles following complaints of them being used illegally in the town.

The vehicles were seized, during separate incidents, earlier this month in the Fullarton and Lawthorn areas of the town.

Two men, aged 16 and 22, have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal for alleged offences, including driving a vehicle elsewhere than a road and driving without a valid policy of insurance.

Irvine Locality Policing Team have now displayed new posters, in particular areas of the town, highlighting that the use of off-road vehicles on footpaths and in parks is illegal and to encourage reporting of incidents by local residents and visitors.

PC Emley, of the Irvine Locality Policing Team, said: "The illegal use of off-road vehicles in local communities and green spaces is dangerous and we would like to assure the public that we are working with our partners to take action to curb the nuisance and dangers associated with their use in public areas.

“These vehicles are designed to be used off-road, but this does not mean that they can be driven anywhere off-road. They must only be driven on private land where the landowner has given permission and should never be driven on pavements, roads or other public property.

"Anyone who witnesses illegal activity in their community is encouraged to contact Police Scotland by calling 101 (in an emergency always dial 999) and provide as much information as possible to enable us to take action. This would include the colour of the vehicle, any distinctive markings and any information on the people using them. Information can also be passed via the independent charity CrimeStoppers by calling 0800 555111
