Irvine police turned up in force to the train station after reports of teenagers heading to Troon beach.

Police confirmed the action was regarding an event shared on social media, and previous incidents with teenagers heading to Troon beach mid-July.

Writing on Twitter, Police Scotland said: "If you are heading to the seaside be sure to say hi to our officers patrolling the area."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Following social media reports Police Scotland is aware that many groups of young people are expected to turn up at Troon beach today.

"As such there will be additional police in area and various transport hubs to cope with the sudden influx of people."

This follows incidents from previous years of Glasgow youngsters descending on Troon beach in July, with incidents of anti social behaviour, drinking and violence.

On Facebook Police Scotland said: "With the temperatures soaring across Ayrshire today, police say they are expecting a significant number of people to visit local beaches and other visitor attractions in Ayrshire.

"We have a comprehensive policing plan in place due to the expected increase in visitor numbers - this will include additional officers at train stations and beaches.

"We are also working closely with our partners including Scotrail, British Transport Police and Local Authorities to ensure everyone can enjoy their visit.

"It is an offence to consume alcohol in any public space and you will be issued with a fixed penalty notice if you do so.

"If it is suspected that you are providing alcohol to under 18 year olds then your alcohol will be confiscated and you may be liable to prosecution.

"Antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated. This includes noise nuisance and littering. Please keep our beaches beautiful and pick up your rubbish. Don't spoil the experience for everyone else.

"We have additional officers on patrol today - please speak with officers to discuss any local concerns. Antisocial behaviour and criminality will not be tolerated.
