The infamous Greasy Pole event is in doubt after apparent attempts at sabotage by sawing half way through it.

The committee have told the Irvine Times they are currently trying to source a new pole after it was cut half way through with a saw.

Laura Kerr from the Marymass Committee told the Irvine Times: "We've been told there's been three boys visable on the hill trying to cut it down with a saw.

"They managed to cut half way through.

"Its disappointing so many volunteer work so hard to put all of this together and then this happens.

"At the moment we're trying to locate another pole so it can still go ahead."

Danny Kerr Captain of the Carters said: "If we don’t get a pole this afternoon it will certainly not happen.

"If we can get one this afternoon then there’s still time to erect it tomorrow morning, but time’s marching on.

"What I’m really disappointed about is they’ve tried to stop the competition by it coming down half way through. They’ve cut it enough for if the team were to climb it then it would snap, to me that’s criminal damage.

More as we get it.
