A new initiative to crack down on bogus callers and rogue traders is being supported by police in North Ayrshire.

North Ayrshire Council’s Trading Standards team have produced a new door sticker - with a strongly worded message – that they hope will soon be displayed on the doors of properties across the locality.

As well as acting as a deterrent, the notice makes it clear that any traders who ignore the message could be reported to the Procurator Fiscal’s Office.

The door stickers are now available for free from council offices and police offices in the area.

Sergeant Jason Peter, of the Irvine Locality Policing Team, said “Doorstep criminals are cunning, creative and very convincing. “They often target the most vulnerable in our communities.

“The door stickers provide a very visual deterrent to cold callers - everyone has a part to play in keeping our communities safe and I would encourage anyone with any information on crime or suspicious activity to contact us.”

Trading Standards are offering stickers to everyone in North Ayrshire. In return they are asking to be informed of anyone cold calling at properties in North Ayrshire, particularly builders, landscapers or people offering garden tidy, tree felling, gutters, mono-blocking, power washing, roofing, solar power or disabled adaptations.
