An Irvine man has admitted stealing money from a charity shop.

John Burke, 38, of Bilby Terrace, pleaded guilty to stealing money from the store when appearing before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Thursday, October 26.

The court heard that staff working at the Scottish Cancer Support store in Kilmarnock discovered that a sum of money had gone missing from the cash box on Septermber 21.

A figure of £353.23 had been outstanding and has not been recovered.

The shop carried out investigations and Burke had been working within the shop with a member of staff responsible for dealing with cash, who had noticed at the end of the shift that money was missing.

Sheriff McKenzie said: "I'm going to defer sentence for a full Criminal Justice Social Work Report which will a Restriction of Liberty Order assessment."

Bail was continued for Burke who will return to the court later this month.
