The police, coastguard ambulance and fire crews were called out on Sunday after reports of a woman in the water near Irvine Harbour.
A multi-agency response swung into action with resources from Police Scotland, Scottish Fire & Rescue Service, Scottish Ambulance Service, the Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team as well as additional Search and Rescue assets including Ayr Coastguard Rescue Team and Troon Lifeboat being tasked to the incident.
The casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance.
A spokesperson for the Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team said: "The team responded immediately with Coastguard Rescue Officers gearing up in full water rescue equipment and preparing for a rapid insertion into the water once on scene.
"As the coastguard arrived on scene, the casualty was recovered from the water by officers from Police Scotland, whose quick thinking had a massive positive impact on the outcome of the incident.
"The police officers were assisted by emergency service colleagues with the casualty then quickly placed in the care of paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service."
