IRVINITES are being asked to give their opinions on a proposed new £60m golf development planned for the beachfront.

The meeting on Wednesday will be the first opportunity for residents to say whether they are for or against the 18-hole golf course complex, which would also include a hotel with spa and 176 apartments.

Irvine Community Council chairperson June Niven said the group had yet to decide if they would back the proposed complex - but had sought assurances that it would not spoil the beach.

She said: "We've been told it's not going to do any harm - it's not going to be on any of the beach."
