The SSP has brought its 'Defiance Campaign' to Irvine by demanding no more cuts are made in this year's budget.
The party is calling on councillors to stand up for local people and set a budget that meets the needs of communities across North Ayrshire.
The party has taken to the streets of Irvine to rally members of the public to sign a petition supporting its cause.
Denise Morton, the SSP's candidate for the Irvine East seat says the people of Irvine have come out in support of the campaign.
She said: "The strength of support for our Defiance Campaign has been great. Hundreds of local people have signed our petition and made clear they will not tolerate councillors imposing savage spending cuts again this year.
"North Ayrshire councillors have to decide whose side they are on - slashing services and sacking workers suggests it's not the side of local people.
"Councillors of all parties agreed last year to cuts that have really hurt local people who rely on services that have either been severely reduced or completely stopped.
"It's time local councillors started to put local interests first.
"Ordinary men, women and children in Irvine should not be paying the debts of millionaire bankers in the City of London, and local councillors should not be sitting back, accepting savage cuts instead of fighting for the people they are supposed to represent."
Ms Morton says the SSP will be in Irvine to garner support for the coming weeks.
She said: "We will be at the Bridgegate on a regular basis, collecting the signatures of local people demanding there should be no more cuts in this year's budget."
