IRVINE TO HOST EUROPEAN KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

IRVINE has been chosen over London to play host to a European Karate Championship.

Hundreds of competitors and supporters from around Europe will flood the town for the fourth WUKF European Karate Championships for Seniors and Veterans in June.

Kilwinning travel agent boss Shona Thorne has campaigned to bring the event to the Magnum Leisure Centre.

Event manager Hayley Skinner, of Thorne Travel, said: "It is a really big achievement. The World Union of Karate-Do Federations (WUKF) were already offered London so we were really happy to convince them to come here."
