SUPERMARKET giant Sainsbury's has launched a bid to extend its petrol station opening hours - after they were nabbed operating an hour before planning rules allowed.
The company, which opened its 1,000th store last year in Irvine, was exposed by the times for flouting the rules by opening its petrol station at 7am, despite planning conditions laid down by the council saying they shouldn't open until an hour later.
But now the food chain says it has stopped the early opening and has applied for permission to make its 7am starts above board..
The store had previously been slammed for flouting the rules, bringing unfair competition to a nearby family-run garage who are officially allowed to open in the early morning.
