UNEASY TRUCE TO PLEAD FOR CASH
COUNCIL leader David O'Neill has joined forces with his political rival SNP leader Matthew Brown to plead for help - and cash - from the Scottish Government.
The Labour leader and his SNP opponent have teamed up in a bid to urge the Scottish Government to do more to help reform the way local government operates.
Mr O'Neill and Mr Brown, said the Government should either force the public sector to change or provide incentives for reform.
The two joined forces after MSP Derek Mackay said reform of local government would accelerate after May's municipal elections - but avoided addressing what the Scottish Government could do to force this through.
Now Mr Brown says the Government needs to take action.
He said: "If we wait for things to happen organically we'll be dead. The Scottish Government needs to publish a set of principles in terms of how and where reform should take place.
