FARE PLAY TO COUNCIL ON TAXI FREEZE

TAXI fares across North Ayrshire will be frozen in a bid to save passengers money during the recession.

It had been feared that cab prices in Irvine and Kilwinning were set to rise ahead of the council's Licensing Committee meeting last week.

But licensing officials agreed with taxi drivers that fares should remain the same, due to the current economic climate.

It was decided that the only change to the current pricing system would be a 50 percent surcharge if more than five passengers travel at the one time in a seven seater cab.
