FIREFIGHTERS VOW TOUGH ACTION ON HOAX CALLERS
FED-UP local firefighters have vowed to take tough action on hoaxers - after being called to 189 false alarms in nine weeks.
Crews from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue have answered just shy of 200 emergency calls since December 1 - which turned out to be false.
Speaking to the Times, Group Commander Billy Thompson said the false alarms were a huge drain on resources - and potentially fatal
He said: "If we are out on a false alarm - whether it be a malicious call or not, that means we are not able to attend a real fire or a road traffic accident."
