A CHARITY’s work to help Irvine children and families affected by drug abuse as been documented in a new short film.

4ward Steps – based in Glasgow Vennel - is a family support service run by leading Scottish children’s charity CHILDREN 1st to improve the quality of life for vulnerable children and families affected by substance misuse.

The service is aimed at new and expectant mothers affected by significant drug problems and also offers support to other family members including spouses, partners and other children within the household.

Project workers Sue McCrorie and Michelle Robertson explain how the service works in the short film, made by People’s Postcode Lottery – who supports CHILDREN 1st - to showcase the projects that players of the lottery help to support.

Colin McCredie, CHILDREN 1st and People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador, said: “CHILDREN 1st do a remarkable job supporting vulnerable children and families, and Ayrshire’s 4ward Steps service is just one example of that work.

“The care and support that the staff give to expectant mums who are tackling substance misuse so that they can make a better life for the child is essential, and clearly makes a massive difference to the lives of parents and children in the Ayrshire community.   “Players of the People’s Postcode Lottery raise millions for CHILDREN 1ST simply by playing and their lottery tickets go a long way towards securing a safe and happy childhood for all of Scotland’s children. I would encourage everyone to support the great work this charity does.” The film can be found on Youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEtYb7gb92Y For more information about the work of CHILDREN 1st, go to www.children1st.org.uk
