AN Irvine resident has blasted the council over the state of a new car park.

Local campaigner George Barr has criticised NAC after a new car park in Dickson Drive was left in a mess due to recent bad weather.

Construction began last month and finished last week but George, along with other residents, have been left frustrated at how muddy it is.

Comparisons have been drawn to the condition of Irvine’s Low Green after work carried out by Scottish Water dug up a lot of the ground.

Now, George has spoken out at the new car park and has described it as a “nightmare out of hell”.

He said: “The new parking site at Dickson Drive is not satisfactory. The area is looking worse than the mess that was left at the Low Green.

“The site at the Dickson Drive grass area now covered in mud needs to be re-turfed and grass seeding is not acceptable as it will only leave bare spots where the grass surfaced needs replaced.

“The work started on March 17 and was barely completed by April 4 and now looks worse, a nightmare out of hell barely describes it.

“The area lacks parking lines for disabled parking only and bays that can hold up to ten cards. Residents park without knowing where the parking bays are, there are no sign posts are in place and litter bins provided on site.

“The council have barely followed the guidelines on parking structures for up to 10 cars and failed to fully landscape the area properly, it appears to be a rush job.

“Surely the council should lead by example to others rather than setting a bad example.” A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “We are currently building a small residential car park in Dickson Drive. This followed discussions with the local community about the facilities they would like to see in the area.

“The project was proposed by a tenant through our Estate Based Projects Initiative and was approved by the Castlepark and Eglinton Tenants and Residents Group.

“We are still working at the site and will address this as part of our ongoing work.”
