A MAN has appeared in court charged with attempted murder following an alleged hit and run.

James Affleck, 33, has appeared in court after a man was knocked down in the alleged incident in East Road on Saturday afternoon.

A 30-year-old man is in Crosshouse Hospital after being hit by a car in East Road at around 12.45pm on Saturday.

His condition is described as 'stable’ and the incident is being treated as an alleged attempted murder. Police confirmed they had arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the incident and he appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Around 12.45pm on Saturday, October 18 2014, police received a report that a man had been assaulted and struck by a car in East Road Irvine. The injured man, 30, was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as serious.

“The inquiry is at an early stage but officers are treating the incident as attempted murder.

“A full investigation is underway and enquiries are continuing.”
