A MAN was taken to hospital following a dramatic scene in Irvine town centre at the weekend.
Police were called to High Street on Saturday afternoon after reports of a disturbance in a flat above RS McColl.
On arrival, officers found a man had climbed out of a top floor-flat and was perched on the roof at around 2.50pm.
Officers in riot gear had earlier taken up position in a shop underneath the flat.
Hundreds of people gathered below the building to watch the drama unfold.
Police were able to speak with the man who eventually climbed back inside.
The 22-year-old was later taken to Crosshouse Hospital.
A spokesman for Ayrshire Police Division said: “Around 2.50pm on January 24, police responded to reports of a disturbance within a property on High Street, Irvine.
“A 22-year-old man has been detained and taken to Crosshouse hospital in connection with the incident.”
