GREENWOOD Academy have been crowned Scotland’s burger kings and queens - after winning a prestigious competition.
The Dreghorn school were declared the overall winners of the design-a-burger competition at the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh.
Second year pupils along with Home Economics teacher Miss Smith were invited to the show for the final judging.
The competition was organised by the Scotch Butchers Club where pupils across Scottish secondary schools were invited to come up with ideas for home-made burgers created using scotch beef, scotch lamb or specially selected pork.
From an initial 124 entries, six were initially short-listed to work with their local butcher member of the Scotch Butchers Club to bring their recipe to life.
And it was Greenwood’s 'Clapshot Burger’ made from specially selected pork that wowed the judges to scoop the grand prize of £150.
They were presented with their award by X-Factor finalist Emily Middlemas who sang for them at the awards ceremony.
Congratulations to all the pupils from everyone at the Irvine Times!
