FAST-FOOD giants Pizza Hut have unveiled plans to open a delivery store in Irvine.

The company is hoping to open a store in the former Ladbrokes in Quarry Road - just yards from pizza rivals Domino’s in East Road.

If the application is approved by North Ayrshire Council planning bosses, the store will join the long list of fast-food shops in Irvine including McDonald’s, KFC, Burger King, Subway and Greggs.

Pizza Hut Delivery is a separate business from the main restaurant chain and are mostly run by franchises.

The planning application states that the store would be open between 11am and 11pm.

The company refused to comment on potential new job numbers but they say the number would vary between quiet and peak times.

This could rise to around six or seven in-house staff with a selection of deliver drivers.

But Pizza Hut insist that the number of staff will depend on how busy the shop is.

In terms of traffic, the company are proposing that deliveries be made from the dedicated loading bay in Eglinton Street. During the day, a delivery driver vehicle would be parked in either the public car park off Quarry Road or in one of the Eglinton Street parking bays.

Pizza Hut insist that there is not a high requirement for parking as 80 per cent of orders are made by phone or online with the remaining percentage coming from passing trade on foot.

The application is currently under consideration by planning bosses.

A spokesperson for Pizza Hut said: “We are constantly looking at opportunities to open new Huts.

“However, at this stage we are unable to provide any further details.”
