THIS year’s Kilwinning Segdoune Gala is shaping up to be the biggest and best ever.
Plans are being finalised for the event, which takes place in McGavin Park on Saturday, June 25 and it looks set to be a spectacular day out for the whole family.
The parade this year will feature the Royal Party in a horse drawn carriage.
The parade will form in the Erskine Church Hall car park and proceed to the Church Street at the end of the Main Street for 12:30pm and travel up the Main Street onto Howgate Road then up Dalry Road and enter the top gate of McGavin Park at approximately 1pm.
The procession will then proceed to the Main Stage where long-time Kilwinning community champion Jim Hodge will crown Emma Montgomery as the 2016 Segdoune Royal.
Promoting Kilwinning say they are delighted that Jim, who was pivotal in setting up Kilwinning Sports Club 15 years ago and is still a volunteer there where he holds the role of treasurer - has accepted the invitation to crown Emma after years of tireless work in the community.
Joe Broussard said: “Jim’s contribution to the Kilwinning Community is well known.
“He and his team at the Kilwinning Sports Club have provided years of sporting experiences to the youth of Kilwinning.”
Jim said as a Kilwinning boy born and bred, he is delighted to be a part of this year’s proceedings.
He said: “As a Kilwinning boy who attends this event annually, I feel honoured that I have been given the opportunity to perform the crowning of this year’s Segdoune Queen.
“I hope the whole community will come out to show their support for the event.”
This year’s crowning ceremony will be part of the spectacular Ayrshire Community Education and Sport’s (ACES) Super Splash event which will tie in with the ACES big Community Engagement Day.
The usual charity and craft stalls are being invited to join in the big day at McGavin Park in Kilwinning on Saturday 25th June from 11.45am to 4.45pm.
There is still time to join the parade and book a stall.
