A Kilwinning man is on a mission to raise as much money for charity as possible in memory of his best friend.

Lee Quinn, set up the Scott Laughlan Together Fund (SLTF) as part of the Butterfly Trust which raises money for Cystic Fibrosis research.

Through the SLTF, Lee has planned a number of different events throughout the summer to raise cash.

Lee said: “Scott was my first best friend, we grew up together in Hawthorn Court in Kilwinning.

“Scott had cystic fibrosis for a long time, but he had a supportive family, who continue to support me in the charity events.

“He lost his battle with the disease last year when he was 23. “Scott was such a genuinely good guy, he was always smiling.

“It didn’t matter what kind of day he was having he would always ask how we were doing. He honestly was one of the most amazing guys I knew.

“Scott’s only wish was that someone would find a cure someday for the disease. So that is why I decided to start the fund to raise money for the Butterfly Trust, that money is kept in Scotland and will hopefully someday, find a cure.”

Lee’s charity duties started last year when he organised a FIFA football competition on his PS4.

His house was soon filled with over 20 people vying for the trophy up for grabs.

Lee said: “It was insane, my house was filled to the brim - the girls were upstairs trying to give us more room.”

The second annual FIFA tournament will happen this year, though thankfully not in Lee’’s house.

Instead it will be held in Revels Bar in Kilwinning on July 1. Coming up first though is a charity football match, Laughlan’s Derby will see the fans of Barcelona and Real Madrid clash at the Kilwinning Community Sports Centre.

The match takes place on June 3, but that is not all happening. There will be stalls for everyone to enjoy from 1pm and kick off begins at 2pm.

Further on down the line is ScottFest 2017 which is being held in Blacklands Bowling Club.

The event is to raise funds for the charity and promote local bands.

The event is so popular it’s already sold out.

Anyone looking to donate to the fund can do so on the Fund’s JustGiving page at justgiving.com/fundraising/LaughlanTogetherFund.
