PARENTS in Irvine and Kilwinning could be able to discover

whether known sex offenders are close to their children under a planned pilot scheme.

Justice Secretary Kenny McAskill will launch the scheme later this year, with the intention of allowing police to inform families if someone with access to their children is on the sex offenders register.

The scheme will be launched in September, and while no area has been specified for the project, Strathclyde could be chosen.

See this week's Irvine Times for the full report.
