Kilwinning speeder's dad slams police for scrapyard charge

A JOINER from Kilwinning has been fined for speeding in his father"s car without insurance. But his father said he thought police were "heavy handed" for impounding the vehicle and demanding £75 to save it from the scrapyard.

Alyn Charles Watling, 23, was hit with a £320 fine for driving at more than 80 miles per hour on the A78. However, his defence lawyer Mr Glencross said he believed he was covered by his father"s policy - and said he had already paid police to stop them scrapping the Honda Civic.

He said: 'It does seem somewhat heavy-handed and Mr Watling senior thought it could have been dealt with in a more sympathetic way.'
