FURY AT SHELTERED HOUSING U-TURN

SHELTERED housing units in Irvine are being made available to tenants who are not elderly or infirm despite assurances from social services bosses that this would not be the case.

Earlier in the year units at Dalrymple Place and Kiln Court were offered for let on North Ayrshire Council's website.

However, during the controversial removal of wardens from sheltered housing last year, the Times was given assurances that the units would not be opened up to general stock.

A council spokesperson insisted that the availability of the units, in April, was only considered after the search for registered applicants proved fruitless.
