Sick people looking for a council house in Irvine and Kilwinning will be given a new medical assessment, the Times can reveal.

The changes will see a £41,000 per year Occupational Therapist carrying out the tests in North Ayrshire and a new system of grades introduced.

The council social services and health boss Iona Colvin said the new therapist will assess applicants to see if aids and adaptations might help them remain in their homes.
