Third death on tracks in just five months

A MAN who was struck and killed at Irvine Railway Station last week is the third person to have died on the tracks in just FIVE months.

The Times can reveal that three men have all been hit by trains in Irvine since mid March - none of the deaths are being treated as suspicious.

The 39-year-old man died at around 10.25am on Wednesday, August 1, after being hit by a train travelling from Glasgow to Stranraer.

Relatives of the man, who is from Glasgow, have been informed and British Transport Police have confirmed that his death is not being treated as suspicious.

His death follows two simialr incidents in the town in the past five months.

The Times reported how a 54-year-old man had died after being struck by a train next to Irvine Golf Club on Thursday April 26.

This incident followed the death of a 61-year-old man from Irvine who was killed by a passing train on Thursday, March 15.

The man's identity remained a mystery for almost four months until the victim's daughter came forward after seeing a Times appeal.
