IT’S certainly a family affair in one Kilwinning household as they get set for two gruelling charity marathons.

Michael Kirkum will soon be jetting off to America to compete in the Grand 2 Grand Ultra marathon.

He’ll be running an incredible 169 miles over six days where he hopes to raise money for Help for Heroes in support of his daughter Janette, who currently serves in the armed forces.

However Janette and brother Michael Jnr are getting in on the act too and will be keen to emulate their dad’s efforts as they prepare to take part in the Race to the Stones Ultra event in July along Britain’s oldest footpath in Salisbury, England.

They’re raising money for Yorkhill Children’s Hospital where they’ll run 100km in the UK’s largest multi-day Ultra event.

The kind-hearted family’s previous marathon efforts have been well documented, raising thousands for pounds for charity.

As a result, Michael Sr has been selected to be one of the baton bearers for the Queen’s Baton Relay as it passes through Kilwinning as part of the celebrations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

The trio have received tremendous support from local businesses and the community with donations continuing to flood in.
