FAME is coll-ing for an Irvine dog after she was picked to star in a reality show with TV star John Barrowman.

Callie the Collie is going to be hitting the small screen next month as the star of a new documentary show Pet Hospital.

The show, which charts the progress of pets struggling with an array of ailments, is presented by Glasgow-born movie and stage star John Barrowman who came all the way to Irvine to film the episode with Callie.

Callie was picked after owners Vicky Taylor and Roddy Waddle became concerned when their beloved pup began suffering bowel problems and became nervous, anxious and afraid of noise.

Vicky, of Stewart Drive, told the Times: "She started getting anxious and it slowly got worse.

"Eventually when we had her out for walks off the lead she would run away, especially when she heard loud noises.

"It eventually got so severe that if we opened a can of juce or sneezed, coughed or laughed she would run away in the house and hide.

"For months it was as if we didn't have a dog as she was always hiding in her wee 'safe' places like behind the TV or in the bath.

Desperate for help Vicky and Roddy took Callie to a local dog behaviourist but even he said Callie's problems were too severe and recommeneded that they take her to the Dog Behaviour Specialist Samantha Lindley at the Small Animal Hospital in Glasgow.

Vicky and Roddy were told to come back for a further appointment at the Animal Hospital in October and the night before they were due to go they received a call from the TV production company to ask if they and Callie would be willing to be filmed for a new TV show.

The couple agreed and filming got underway the very next day, when they first got to meet star of the show John Barrowman.

Then in February, John and his TV crew descended on Stewart Drive to film the trio as they went about their day-to-day lives.

Vicky said she was thrilled to meet the TV star and was delighted to learn he is a big animal lover.

She said: "John was really funny and laid back and really loves animals which made us feel at ease being filmed.

"He and the crew visited on Valentine's Day for the after part of the show and that's when Callie eventually managed to go a walk without being prompted and it was fab seeing her out and about.

"She is getting there slowly but surely."
