THE HEARTBROKEN family and friends of tragic Kilwinning dad Andrew Gallacher have set up a savings fund for the baby daughter he left behind.

The Olivia Grace Gallacher Fund was set up in the days after the 20-year-old’s body was discovered in a wooded area off Dubbs Road and has already topped £2,500.

Fundraisers have been giving generously in the two weeks since apprentice plumber Andrew was found dead on Tuesday, June 24.

The Kilwinning community were left devastated by Andrew’s disappearance and death and hope the fund will help little Olivia, who is just four-months-old, through the initial months and years without her dad.

Andrew, from Whitehirst Park vanished on Friday, June 21 and his disappearance sparked an unprecedented reaction from the entire Kilwinning community who searched in their hundreds for the young dad-of-one.

But tragedy struck just five days later when his body was found, leaving his parents Andrew, 51, Sandra, 54 and girlfriend Laura McRonald, 20, destroyed.

The fundraising page on gofundme.com states: “This page has been set up to raise funds for the daughter of Andrew Gallacher, Olivia Grace Gallacher.

“All funds raised from this page will be donated directly to the family for them to help Olivia throughout her early years. Anything you can give is hugely appreciated and will help this young girl through some difficult times without her dad.” Friends, family and strangers alike have donated to the fund, leaving heartfelt messages on the page.

One message reads: “This could happen to anyone! Donating to let Olivia’s family know that people care”, while another says: “Our son and daughter both had the privilege of being friends with Andrew, our hearts are breaking for all the family and friends.” The fund comes after hundreds of people turned out for a special vigil held in Andrew’s honour the day after his funeral last week.

Scores of people, including Andrew’s heartbroken parent Andrew and Sandra, flocked to a field on Dubbs Road to release Chinese lanterns in an emotional tribute to the tragic 20-year-old.

The sky over Kilwinning and Irvine was lit up around 10pm last Wednesday as people turned out in their droves to pay their respects.

Others who were unable to make the outdoor tribute simply lit a candle at home or work at the same time and took a moment to remember Andrew.
