A POLISH binman who racially abused Scottish police officers in Kilwinning has appeared at court.

Gregorz Czarniecki, 37, hurled a torrent of verbal abuse at officers when they came to his home in Corsehill on June 22.

Police were called to attend at 10.30pm after concerns were raised about the health of someone at the property.

When they arrived, they were first met by Czarnecki’s partner, before he came to the door and began shouting and swearing at them, yelling: “Go away you c---!” This behaviour continued, prompting the officers to arrest him and take him back to Saltcoats Police Office, where he began shouting: “F------ Scottish p----! F--- you! You Scottish c----!” Officers then put him in a cell, at which point he lashed out, kicking one of them on the body.

The binman and father-of-two appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week, assisted by a court interpreter. He pled guilty to charged of assault and acting in a racially aggravated manner causing alarm and distress.

The court heard he had been heavily under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and had little recollection of events, but was ashamed of his behaviour.

It was revealed that he had an extensive record for assaults, though his lawyer pointed out every previous conviction seemed to be of a domestic nature.

On hearing this, Sheriff Iona McDonald commented: “The fact it’s assaults within a domestic situation in some ways does aggravate it.” She told Czarniecki: “Your record does you no favours. You need to learn to control your temper. It may help if you stopped drinking.” She deferred sentence till August for the preparation of reports and advised Czarniecki to bring some money to his next appearance, warning: “I may order you to pay money to the police officer you kicked.”
