THE new giant public screen is set to be unveiled in the new-look Bridgegate this month.

The curtain comes up on big screen on July 23 - to coincide with the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Irvine Bay Regeneration Company, with the support of funding from the Scottish Government, is installing the 33 square metre LED public information screen in Irvine Bridgegate as the final part of the recent public ream improvement works. This is the first town centre screen of this type in the country.

The purpose of the screen is to attract more people into the town centre, to support local businesses and provide an attraction and focal point in the town centre.

The screen will show sporting events, films and other content of community interest.

The screen will be operational from 7am – 10pm every day. There will be news and weather throughout the day, plus films, children’s features and sports events.

One of the first big attractions onscreen is likely to be the Commonwealth Games, which runs from 23rd July – 3rd August. The Games’ opening ceremony will be on 23rd July – and people can watch it on the Big Screen in the Bridgegate.

Patrick Wiggins, Chief Executive of Irvine Bay, said: “This completes our work in Irvine town centre, with our partners at North Ayrshire Council now leading on town centre regeneration to allow us to focus on delivering i3, Irvine’s Enterprise Area.

“The big screen will bring life, colour, and people into Irvine town centre, and in doing so provide local businesses with opportunities.” Local MSP and Minister for Housing and Welfare Margaret Burgess said: “I am delighted that the Scottish Government have been able to support this project as part of its commitment to the regeneration of Irvine town centre. It is fantastic that programming will be shaped by the community, with local advertising, music, film and events, while also creating opportunities to bring the local community together to celebrate major sporting occasions such as the Commonwealth Games.” For further information on the screen and how you might get involved, contact mfrancis@irvinebay.co.uk, tel. 01294 322500 at Irvine Bay Regeneration Company.
