ONE of Scotland’s most respected actors is coming to Irvine to perform a one-man show about Scottish independence.

David Hayman will be starring in The Pitiless Storm at the Harbour Arts Centre on Sunday, September 14 - four days before the referendum vote.

The play is set on the eve of the referendum and tells the story of Bob Cunningham (Hayman) a left-wing trade unionist enduring a crisis of conscience.

With a sea of change sweeping the country’s political life, Bob is forced to question his political and moral beliefs.

Having devoted his life to the party he loves, he is forced by the voices of his past and his conscience to re-evaluate everything he holds dear.

A widower with a dicky ticker and an estranged son, Bob makes a decision that may change his life and affect the future course of his country.

The show made its debut at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe and has so far received positive reviews.

However David, a staunch Yes supporter, recently claimed several council-run theatres were refusing to show his play.

The 66-year-old claimed he was being denied his “right of employment”.

But people in Irvine won’t be denied the chance to see the show when it rolls in to the town next month.

Tickets cost £10 (£9 concession) and are available from the HAC box office on 01294 274059.

Doors open at 7.30pm. For more information visit harbourartscentre.com Recommended for 16+.
